Sledding & Snow Play

Snowman at the Flagstaff Nordic CenterSledding is available one mile past Flagstaff Nordic Center near Highway 180 at Crowley Pit. Crowley Pit is a Forest Service site with temporary toilet and trash services provided by Coconino County. The Crowley Pit parking area is not maintained. For more information on Crowley Pit and other snow play and parking areas, be sure to visit the U.S. Forest Service Peaks Ranger District recreation page.

While the Flagstaff Nordic Center is a great place for building snowmen, please keep in mind that there are no sledding hills on the property. Crowley Pit and Wing Mountain are two popular sledding areas found nearby.

There is now an organized snow play area with plowed and managed parking lot, hot beverages, sleds and other concessions. Visit the Wing Mountain Snow Play Area website for more information.

Crowley Pit has several different size hills that vary in steepness and length. Please sled responsibly and be respectful of other people enjoying the snow area.

The Flagstaff Nordic Center sells plastic sleds, tobaggons, tubes, winter hats, and mittens—all the things to enjoy your day in the mountains around the San Franscisco Peaks.

After a full day of playing in the snow, stop by and enjoy some snacks, hot food, hot cocoa, coffee, or tea to warm your bones.  Please remember our concessions close at 4:00 P.M.
