1k Family Fun Run and Walk

People of all skill and fitness levels will enjoy this walk in a winter wonderland. This is a short walk near the lodge that is well suited for those that want to support Friends of Flagstaff’s Future but would rather not go 5k. Young children and even babies will enjoy this event.  There is no registration fee for the 1k; a donation of at least $5 to support F3 is requested.

5k

The 5k event is perfect for those that have never used snowshoes before as well as the seasoned athlete.  The course includes rolling terrain on well-marked and traveled snowshoe trails. It is easily walk-able for people of all ages, skill and fitness levels. Teams of up to three people are encouraged to participate in the Team Relay.

10k

The 10k event is a challenging course with sustained climbing and technical downhill terrain. This course is a USSSA national qualifying event.  Entrants should be well prepared for all snow conditions and have the fitness level to complete a challenging 10k course.  First time snowshoe athletes are encouraged but should be well aware of outdoor winter environments.  The course can be walked but walkers may miss the awards ceremony and raffle prizes. Those wishing to qualify for the USSSA National Championship Race must be members of USSSA. This can be done at www.snowshoeracing.com and it is recommended that racers become members before race day.  There will be USSSA membership forms available on race day as well.

Online registration is now open at Virtual Roster.

Awards/Prizes

Awards will be given in each race for women’s and men’s divisions of under 30 and over 30. As race participation grows, there will be awards for more age categories.

Snow or No

The ‘Snow or No’ Snowshoe Race will be held regardless of snow conditions. If there is no snow at all it becomes the ‘Snow or No’ Winter Trail Run!  This happened in the first year of the race and only Steve Ilg still decided to run with his snowshoes strapped to his feet. Steve was determined to snowshoe race that day as he had worked hard to encourage snowshoe racing at Flagstaff Nordic Center. Years later we have a big ‘Thank You’ to Steve Ilg for his gentle prodding and enthusiastic support of winter sports at Flagstaff Nordic Center!!
