It’s feeling like the change of seasons in the mornings, and winter can’t be too far away. Let’s hope for a ton of snow this year; I think we’re due. After a couple of minimal snow years it’s time for snow like in 2004-05 when we were skiing out here from late October ‘til late April and were officially open from Thanksgiving to Easter with tremendous snow conditions. Third year is the charm right?

In the event we don’t get that phenomenal year, we’ve added an exciting guarantee this year for season passes purchased before October 31st. People that purchase season passes early will receive all their cash back if we do not receive significant snow.

Specifically, if we receive less than 2 inches (about 2 feet of snow) of liquid precipitation at the Flagstaff Airport between November 23rd and March 23rd refunds will be issued. That total at the airport usually means about 4 feet of snow at the Flagstaff Nordic Center. According to our insurance provider, this has occurred twice recently (2005-06 and 2001-02).

Wendell Johnson on snow machineAs witnessed last year, we managed very good skiing with small amounts of snow. That was the result of significant off-season trail maintenance and aggressive grooming during the season. We’re expanding off-season trail maintenance this year, and as a result should be able to provide even better skiing/snowshoeing with minimal snow this upcoming winter.

Enough of all this talk! Please consider purchasing a season pass early. You’ll get a guarantee against low snow conditions. You’ll be able to ski before and after normal operating hours. Your pass will be honored in New Mexico (Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski Area) and California (Rim Nordic and Green Valley Nordic Ski Areas), and we’ll be doing our best to provide you a great skiing/snowshoeing experience whether we have a lame or an epic snowfall.

To purchase season passes, go to our Season Passes web page or mail a check with names of season pass holders to Flagstaff Nordic Center / PO Box 1781 / Flagstaff, AZ 86002, or call us at 928-220-0550.
